Do you feel anxious, confused, or isolated by your sexual orientation? Are you worried about coming out to people and how they’ll react?

It is common for people in the LGBT community, especially those coming out as an adult, to feel anxious, frustrated, or even fearful and ashamed.  You might feel like you’re being punished – or even be punishing yourself – for your feelings of attraction.  You might worry that your family and friends will reject you, or that you’ll be seen as “abormal.”

You don’t have to feel alone or different.

If those feelings and concerns are holding you back from living a full and open, therapy may be a good resource for you.  Whether you are just becoming aware of your feelings of attraction, need help navigating a homophobic religion, are nervous about coming out to friends and family, or would like strategies for coming out to coworkers, I can help. I am an LGBT friendly therapist with a great deal of experience working with the LGBT community, including expertise in LGBT people who experienced early trauma.

You can accept and feel empowered by your LGBT identity.

I have found that one of the most important factors in LGBT counseling is the emphasis on personal discovery and self-definition. By creating a safe, nonjudgmental, supportive environment, I can help you to know yourself better, identify what you want in life, set and reach your goals, and navigate the world proudly and openly.

My goal is for you to feel confident in yourself. With help and a willingness to identify, explore, and address the thoughts, issues and situations that are causing you pain or confusion, you can gain confidence and come to love and accept yourself just as you are. You can begin to make choices for yourself without comparing yourself to others or feeling a need to conform. Together, we can work through both your individual challenges as well as those that affect many people in the LGBT community, such as meeting and dating, having children with a same-sex partner and managing finances together.
